How to Pick the Perfect Invitation Suite

Embossing, engraving and stamping -- oh my!

If you haven't figured out how your wedding invitation suite is going to look and feel, then these terms (and many others!) may cause your head to spin. Before you throw your hands up in utter frustration, check out these commonly used terms and phrases used during the wedding invitation suite consultation process.

  • Embossing - the lettering and/or images appear to be raised but colorless creating a subtle but modern look.
  • Engraving - the lettering and/or images appear to be slightly raised. Due to its extravagant look (and price tag) this type of invitation design is ideal for ultra-formal weddings.
  • Laser-cut - the latest invitation trend uses a laser to cut words and/or designs for a truly unique look
  • Backer - a piece of paper that is often used to display your invitation beautifully. The backer often matches the colors of your wedding and helps make simpler invitations pop.
  • Boxed - a custom-made container that holds the entire wedding invitation suite in a truly elegant fashion.
  • Belly Band - a piece of material that wraps around the entire invitation suite; generally includes lace, ribbon, or laser-cut paper.
