How To Guide: Wedding Thank You Notes

Congratulations! The wedding was a huge success, your friends and family had a great time and you are now officially betrothed to the person that you love! Time to kick back and relax, right? Not so fast. There is one more thing left to do: writing those thank you notes. Experts recommend that thank you notes should be sent within one month after you return from your honeymoon. Get a head start on this daunting task with some helpful tips below.
  1. Choose your stationery. Design your own thank you card with the help of a wedding paper designer or use your new initials and create a beautiful monogram. Go high end and choose beautiful, heavy duty paper and an expensive pen. Choose rollerball pens over the cheap stuff; they write a whole lot better and won't create massive blobs of ink or quickly run dry from too much writing.
  2. Be specific. Don't simply write "Thank you for the silverware." Be as specific as possible. Refer to your wedding registry if you can't remember exactly which type of bakeware your Aunt Gladys sent to you. For cash or checks, provide a brief explanation on how you and your sweetie are going to spend the money. For example, "Thank you for the generous cash gift Uncle Bob. We're looking forward to using it as a down payment for our house."
  3. Be personal. Show some real emotion in your message. Reminisce about a special moment or an inside joke shared at the wedding. Express your sincere gratitude for seeing your family member or friend at one of the most important days of your life. Don't forget to mention that you hope to see them again soon, especially friends and family who traveled a long distance to attend the wedding. Show some love along with your thanks.
  4. Keep track of your progress. Although it sounds great in theory, writing thank you notes in one sitting just isn't going to happen. Keep a list handy of everyone who attended the wedding as well as those who sent a gift but were unable to attend and mark off each name as you go along. A track record of your progress will come in handy if you need to step away for a few hours (or days).
