What's Your Style - Wedding "Pin"spiration

Whether you're planning a small little ceremony or a huge shindig, one of the first questions that comes to mind when planning a wedding is "What's your style?" Style can mean a lot of things including look and feel of the ceremony/reception site, overall theme and color scheme. Some style trends to consider include classic/elegant, rustic, beach/seaside or a winter wonderland.

Here are some tips to consider when planning the style of your wedding. Then, scroll down for some drool-worthy wedding styles from around the world. Like what you see? Don't forget to follow us on Pinterest at Mayla Studios

What's Your Wedding Day Style?
  1. Planning a Springtime wedding? Consider using the great outdoors as your backdrop for your ceremony and/or reception. Places to consider include botanical gardens, mansions with lush courtyards, local parks, dinner cruise lines or anywhere that offers panoramic views of blooming flowers and trees. Prefer to party inside? Incorporate springtime colors like light pinks, blues and greens as well as springtime flowers including daffodils, tulips, lilies, magnolias, peonies and hydrangeas. Give a small potted plan or flower seeds as your wedding favors.
  2. Prefer having fun under the hot sun? Summertime wedding destinations include the beach, lake or a spacious rooftop. Think bright, vibrant hues like turquoise, hot pink and emerald for your color scheme. Create a tasty, tropical menu including foods you would find at a barbeque or signature summertime cocktails like margaritas and pina coladas. Use bright and vibrant flowers like dahlias, hibiscus, mums and roses. Serve light desserts like sorbet and angel food cake. Pass out personalized fans, beer coozies, flip flops or starfish as your wedding favors.
  3. With the changing colors and falling leaves, autumn is a gorgeous time of year to get married. Think traditional fall hues, like gold, burgundy, brown and forest green, for your color scheme. Consider having your ceremony/reception in a rustic location such as a bed and breakfast, state park, wineries, farms, ranches, barns or a historic mansion. Popular fall flowers include sunflowers, marigolds, gerbera daisies, chrysanthemums and zinnias. Think traditional fall time fare, like turkey, potatoes, corn bread and green beans for your menu. For your favors, think fall favorites like take-home hot chocolate, mini pies, cookies or candy.
  4. Let Mother Nature do all the work and create a winter wonderland. Consider a destination wedding up in the mountains, cabins or at a ski lodge. Or, incorporate a fun and festive New Years Eve party into your wedding planning. Think white, silver and light blue as your color scheme. Decorate your ceremony/reception space with lots of candles to evoke that cozy-at-home feeling or incorporate holiday items, like poinsettias and holly, into your overall theme. Seasonal blooms include jasmines, orchids and forget-me-nots. Hand out mini snow globes, candles or winter-themed treats for your wedding favors.

A Piece of Cake - Wedding "Pin"spiration

It may be one of the best aspects of planning a wedding -- picking out a wedding cake! How To Pick a Wedding Cake: Top Tips

  1. Wait it out. It's easier to pick the design/style of the cake once other elements, like the date and/or location of the wedding, wedding colors and theme, are determined. You wouldn't want to have a 15-tier wedding cake at a beach-side ceremony, right?
  2. Find a cake designer you admire. If you're looking for a cake that's more modern and less frilly flowers and Greek columns, then be sure to find someone whose skills match your sense of style. Ask family and friends for some recommendations or look online to get an idea of the bakery's wedding cake portfolio before booking an appointment. Be sure to check the bakery's reputation too. Look at sites like Yelp, the Knot or local websites and magazines to get a grasp of other brides experiences.
  3. Plus One. Yes, free cake samples sounds like a great way to bond with your bridesmaids or soon-to-be in-laws, but it also welcomes confusion and chaos. Typically, the more people you invite the harder it is to get an overall consensus on cake flavors and designs. And, the most important opinion out of all of the hubbub is yours. Grab the groom, your mom or a best friend but no more than two other people tops.
  4. Think outside the cake. Why stop at just a wedding cake? Set up a dessert table and give your guests a smorgasbord of options. This popular dessert trend features a variety of sweet treats including cupcakes, cookies, candy, pies, macaroons, doughnuts, cake pops, fresh fruits and more all set up in a gorgeous display. Bonus: midnight snacks!

Bridesmaid Dresses - Wedding "Pin"spiration

Now that you've asked your nearest and dearest to be your bridesmaid, it's time to figure out exactly what they are going to wear. Here are some tips to consider when searching for the right gown for your girls. Then, check out some of our favorite pins below. Like what you see? Follow us on Pinterest at Mayla Studios!

Tips for Picking Out Bridesmaid Gowns

  1. Consider the theme of your wedding. Will it be a traditional ceremony? Modern? Vintage? Will it be on the beach? On a farm? What about the style of your dress? If you're walking down the aisle wearing a short, vintage wedding dress, your bridesmaid may look silly wearing a long formal gown. Other factors to consider include the time of day the wedding will take place as well as the season.
  2. Think about the color. No one says your bridesmaids need to be matchy-matchy with each other or the overall color scheme of your wedding. Consider picking out a dress in a flattering tone, like eggplant, Indian teal, hunter green, navy or mellow rose.
  3. Choose different neckline styles. Let's face it. Our friends have different body and bust sizes. What might look flattering on Small-Chested Sally may not look so great on Big-Boobed Betty. Picking different necklines not only help flatter your girls but also make them feel comfortable and less self-conscious too.
  4. Be Mindful of Costs. So, you've got your eye on that custom Vera Wang bridesmaid gown. While you think it's perfectly okay to fork over $500 for a dress that may only be worn once, your bridesmaids may  not feel the same way. Most bridesmaids are comfortable spending around $200 for a dress. If you must have that custom Vera Wang bridesmaid dress, then consider paying the difference.
